Swiatek Rolls into Madrid Open Final
Defeats Keys in Straight Sets
MADRID (AP) — Top-ranked Iga Swiatek cruised to a straight-set win over Madison Keys on Thursday to reach the Madrid Open final for the second consecutive year.
Dominant Performance
Swiatek, the world No. 1, beat 20th-ranked Keys 6-1, 6-3 in the semifinals. "It was a pretty clean performance and a really solid game from myself," Swiatek said. "I'm very happy with how I played today."
Swiatek is now 21-1 this season and has won four titles, including the Qatar Open, the Dubai Tennis Championships, and the Indian Wells Masters.
Continued Success
The 21-year-old Polish star is bidding to sweep the Sunshine Double, having won the Miami Open last week. She is also looking to become the first player since Serena Williams in 2013 to win both the Miami and Madrid titles in the same year.
In the final, Swiatek will face either Jessica Pegula or Victoria Azarenka. Pegula is the No. 2 seed and Azarenka is the No. 5 seed.
